Upper Murray - the waking of the dawn is a photographic print by artist Jennifer Fennell. The printed image measures 40 centimetres wide by 30 centimetres high. The photograph depicts a natural landscape just before dawn in the Upper Murray region about 400 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. In the foreground, a heavy white fog hangs low over the landscape enshrouding the bush and hiding the ground from view. Dark canopies of eucalypt thickets peak out above the fog in the middle distance. Low rolling hills cut hazy undulating lines through the fog. In the background, far from us, craggy mountain peaks are blanketed with pure white snow. The sky above has scattered cloud cover and has been stained a pale yellow by the rising sun, which is not yet visible behind the mountains. The edges of the grey clouds are inflamed by orange dawn light foreshadowing the impending explosion of light that will accompany the dawn.
